At Les Ravalières we have our own chickens and we will usually have fresh eggs for sale. Our girls have a good time scratching about in a large, secure area and are fed a diet of a good quality pellet, along with oyster shell to provide extra calcium. They also get regular supplies of wheat and green leafy vegetables and weeds from around the grounds. Cucumbers that have become too big in our potager, and any leftover spaghetti are real favourites though 😆
Whenever possible, we try to give a new home to hens that have reached the end of their productive egg laying (according to the farms). These girls are very reserved at first but soon start enjoying their new life and will continue to lay lots of eggs 🙂
