Making sure you have the correct car travel documentation is so important, whether you’re travelling to France by car or motorbike.
During a roadside check by police or gendarmerie, you must present the following vehicle documents in physical form (the electronic version is not accepted).
- Driver’s license (card)
- Vehicle registration document (a photocopy for a rental vehicle)
- Insurance certificate
Failure to provide these can result in a fine of up to €150 for just one document, so double check you have these before departing.
